As usual water and water features played a central role in virtually all the show gardens at the most prestigious gardening show in the world, the Chelsea Flower Show on the Thames embankment London. Even though merit and medals at the show are awarded primarily for the quality of design and plantsmanship, it seemed that these always come hand in hand with a spectacular use of water.
Outdoor rooms, minimalism and soft blues and purples where the zeitgeist of the moment. Even natural schemes had some heavily man-made element to them.
There was also a strong element of water saving or drought toleration in the plantings ironic since it seemed to raining from dawn until dusk and was as cold as winter.
