The cradle is a Perspex water featureser into a void, slowly filling and emptying to reflect how Chi, our life force, ebbs and flows.

Inspired by a chain cube Alex Hart made for Channel 4s Great Garden Challenge last year, the garden is based on straight lines. Lacquered chain obelisks rise out of two pools. The garden is screened with louvred panels.

This is about climate change, family holidays on the Scillies and an experiment in plantings for urban space. Hard strong formal materials are softened by an informal planting.

Movement and energy is added by a recycled glass, tiled water rill. Ceramic fish can be seen through the bottom of the stream that flows from a raised pool to a fernery. Papyrus reed is planted along the rill and is meant to provide a sense of enclosure.

The planting is based on Mediterranean, Mexican and South African plants that are tolerant of drought.

Another climate change garden that symbolises a flower catching water. A simple circle with radiating lines, a rill encircles the whole hard landscaping.

A modern interpretation of the classical Moorish garden as in the Alhambra, Granada, Spain. Vertical and horizontal rills of black water contrast with the white concrete.
