Hampton court palace flower show, awarded to the best Conceptual Gardens...
Vaughan Aston: New Eden SILVER-GILT FLORA AWARD
Contractor: Laurie Eggenton Gardens
A garden showing the power of nature to restore and regenerate itself, after the apocalypse will come a era of a new Eden. I suppose all that remains of humanity and technology is the ugly metal wall.
Andrew Duff: Abstracted Conglomerate BRONZE AWARD
9 tons of concrete in an abstract shape. A small pool adds what little life there is.
Sarah Price: Repetition and Difference GOLD AWARD
A barcode of flowing water rills intercept the planting extending out beyond the garden. Fractured ground patterns of quarry slate and strips of chamomile. This works with the craftsmanship and artistic eye that Sarah obviously has.
Acorn Garden Design: The Danger of Need GOLD AWARD and BEST CONCEPTUAL GARDEN AWARD.
Contractor: Brittaine Landscapes
Taking Adam and Eve as a motif the garden allows the visitor to indulge in voyeurism and temptation and at the same time gets a feeling of exclusion, although there is interaction with buttons to press to see various video events on small screens. An inner sanctum can only be peeked at through small apertures. In the picture there is meant to be Adam and Eve, nude bar the fig leaves cavorting around the Eden scene. A well deserved gold.
Michelle Wake: The River Unwound SILVER FLORA AWARD
A deconstructed river with the elements of water, beach and bank are created in their own shapes. Interesting idea but doesnt quite work on the ground.
